Decide what the room must do
Define the main use: films, sport, gaming or a shared media space. Agree on the number of regular viewers, maximum guests, light-control expectations and the budget range. Separate essential work from later upgrades.

SLV / ROOM-FIRST PLANNING
Home Theatre Design: Room, Seating, Sound & Picture
Home theatre design coordinates the room before equipment and interiors are fixed. A convincing concept must translate into a buildable plan with seating sightlines, speaker locations, projection geometry, ventilation and a clear bill of quantities.
Draw the system before finishing the room
A coordinated drawing should locate the screen, seated ear positions, speakers, subwoofers, projector, racks, power and cable paths. Resolve door swings and AC conflicts before the ceiling closes.
Equipment needs cooling, access and a replacement route. Keep rack depth and connector bend space in the joinery plan; a hidden rack is only useful if it can be serviced.
Agree on evidence at handover
Ask what the scope includes: placement, system configuration, test patterns, level/distance setup and an operating walkthrough. Measured acoustic or colour calibration should be stated separately with deliverables.
Keep model numbers, circuit and cable labels, warranty information and user instructions together. This makes later troubleshooting and upgrades easier.
