ALR Projector Screens: Light, Viewing Angle & Fit
An ambient-light-rejecting screen changes how light is reflected toward the audience. It does not make a bright room equivalent to a dark theatre, and the right material depends on projector position and light direction.
Test from the seats you actually use
A directional material can look different from an off-centre seat. Examine a sample under the planned lighting and check uniformity, hotspots, sparkle and colour appearance before committing.
Manage the room as well as the screen
Curtains, shades, light placement and reflective surfaces still matter. Compare a suitable television if strong uncontrolled daylight is the normal use case.

When should you consider an ALR screen?
ALR is worth considering when daylight, ceiling lights or other room lighting would otherwise wash out the projected image. The exact screen design should match the projector and room.
Bright living rooms
ALR can help maintain a more watchable image when complete blackout is not practical.
Large projection
Screen choice becomes increasingly important as the image size grows and brightness is spread over a larger area.
Projector matching
Gain, viewing angle and screen material should be considered alongside projector brightness and placement.

Reducing ambient light in the room is still valuable. ALR screens have viewing-angle and placement characteristics, so the screen should be selected for the actual room rather than by the ALR label alone.
